About This Template & Printing Tips
Paper specs, best applications, and scaling advice
A precision-engineered 2mm grid paper template, built on exact vector measurements. On US Letter (8.5 × 11 in), a 2mm grid fills the 175.9 × 239.4mm usable area with 88 vertical and 120 horizontal lines, forming roughly 10,353 individual grid squares – sized for precision technical work.
Key Features:
- Exact Measurements: Precisely calibrated 2mm dimensions and line spacing.
- Color Profile: High-contrast black lines ensure maximum visibility and crisp photocopies.
- Perfect Fit: Formatted natively for standard US Letter (8.5 x 11 inches).
By the Numbers
- Grid spacing: 2mm (0.08in) in both directions
- Grid lines: 88 vertical × 120 horizontal
- Approximate squares: 10,353
- Usable grid area: 175.9 × 239.4mm, inside a uniform 20mm margin
- Stepping up to 5mm spacing: drops the count to roughly 1,645 squares – fewer, bigger cells for less detail-critical work
- Stepping down to 1mm spacing: raises the count to roughly 41,825 squares – finer detail at the cost of a busier-looking page
Also Available
This grid also comes at 1mm, 5mm, 10mm spacing, in black, blue, black, and every paper size from A5 to Legal. Browse the full set from the graph paper category page if this exact combination isn’t quite right.
Best Uses and Applications
- Precision Engineering: Built for highly detailed scale drawings where a 1-2mm error compounds fast.
- Micro-Plotting: Dense enough to plot scientific data or high-resolution charts by hand.
- Schematics: The fine grid is the standard choice for electrical and mechanical schematics.
Printing Recommendations
For accurate measurements, always set your print dialog to “Actual Size” or 100% scale – never “Fit to Page,” which silently rescales every line, dot, or grid square on the sheet. Most consumer print drivers default to “Fit to Page” or “Shrink to Fit,” so it’s worth checking the scale setting even if you’ve printed from this browser before. For technical work, print on 24lb+ paper so fine pen lines don’t feather into the grid.
- Print a single test page first and check the spacing with a ruler before printing a full batch.
- If lines look too faint or too heavy on your printer, use the Interactive Generator to adjust opacity before your next print run.
- Store extra printed sheets flat rather than folded – a crease across ruled lines or a grid is far more noticeable than one across blank paper.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I print this LETTER template on a different paper size?
Yes, but the measurements are calibrated specifically for US Letter (8.5 × 11 in). If you print on a different sheet size without matching scale, the printer will stretch or shrink every line to fit, which throws off the exact spacing. Use the generator to rebuild the template natively for your target size instead of rescaling this one.
Does the line weight interfere with scanning?
We intentionally calibrated the line opacity to 80% with a 0.5pt weight. This is dark enough to guide your pen but light enough to fall back when scanned or photographed, keeping your work highly legible even at the finer spacings, where more lines are packed into the same page.
What does the Interactive Generator let me change that this static PDF doesn’t?
This page is a fixed, pre-configured version. The generator behind it exposes the same underlying settings – paper size, orientation, spacing, color, line weight, and margins – as live sliders and color pickers, with a preview that updates as you drag them. It’s the same PDF engine, just with the defaults unlocked so you can land on a variant that isn’t listed as its own page.
